Description
Red Rock Crossing is the home of Cathedral Rock, one of the vortex spots in Sedona. It is one of the most photographed places in Sedona, as well as the whole state of Arizona. Hikers, artists of all types, and lovers of nature come to red rock country to experience the beauty of Cathedral Rock. If you need gear to hike, swim, or photograph, Sedona is blessed with several great outdoor shops like Canyon Outfitters, Sedona Outdoors, and the Hike House. In uptown Sedona, you can find Rollies Camera which has been serving Sedona since 1961. Cathedral Rock is one of the gems that is found in Northern Arizonas 'high desert. It is a captivating beauty of red rock sandstone, weathered by time and the elements that awaits you in Sedona, Arizona. In Sedona's magnificent red rock country, Cathedral Rock a stunning masterpiece of breathtaking red rock monolith, will touch your heart, and calm your inner self. One of the wonderful things about this beauty of nature is its ability to charm you with its shadows, reflections, and variety of colors. When the light hits Cathedral, one of the most visited spots of Sedona, it glows and the red and orange sandstones are nature in the raw. In the dry and arid conditions of northern Arizona, the light is always changing. Sedona is second only to the Grand Canyon in visitors. Whether you climb the face of Cathedral on the east side to the notch, or approach it thru Red Rock Crossing on the west side, the views are splendid and inspiring. Both sides give you access to the creek that flows at it's base with many folks enjoying the cooling waters of Oak Creek at the crossing. The Red Rocks are a mixture of red and orange sandstones called the Schnebly Hill Formation. This formation is found primarily in the Sedona area. The Sandstones was deposited here about 250 to 300 million years ago. My favorite time of the day to visit Cathedral is between 3 to 6 in the summer; which is also a great time to take a dip in Oak Creek, and the late afternoon on shorter days. Whether you are looking for an easy or strenuous hike, some mountain biking, awesome photography, or a serene, calming place to reach your inner self, Cathedral Rock is a great place to start or finish.

Another stellar capture of one of Sedona's most beautiful locations, Tom. Artist John Cogan recently did a sunrise painting of this area that is breath taking. Although some of his work can be seen on FAA, the Sedona painting can be seen on his official website. FAV / LIKE
