Description
While walking along Cannery row in Monterey, California, I came across these vibrant red flowers in someone's yard. These flowers are from the Nasturtium family, and are beautiful as well as edible. These genus of a perennial plant , literally called nose- tweaker is native to South and Central America. They are also called Indian Cress as they were first noticed in the Indies. All parts of it are edible. It has a slight peppery taste, and it is a colorful and tasty way to add to your meal of any type. It has also been used in herbal formulas, as it has antiseptic and expectorant qualities. . also used for respiratory and urinary tract infections. The flowers can be diced and used to give a peppery flavor to vinegars, and butters. If they are sprayed, don,t eat! Otherwise they are wonderful!
