Description
Awhile back I decided to walk the Golden Gate and back on a sunny summer's day. The bridge was crowded with bicyclists, runners, walkers, cars, motorcycles, strollers, photographers, etc. It was a grand day to enjoy San Francisco and with the fog lifting, the photography was awesome. Whenever I return, I can,t help feel captivated by this wonderful bridge that leads to an awesome big, and fun diverse city! It is a suspension bridge spanning the Golden Gate, which is the opening of the bay into the Pacific Ocean. It is also part of Route 101 and California State Route 1. It has been declared one of the wonders of the modern world. The views can just be breathtaking. It is considered by many as the most photographed bridge in the world. It links San Francisco with Marin County. This 1.7 mile bridge can be crossed on foot, car, or bicycle. If you are walking, or biking, bring your camera, and windbreaker; you will be glad you did. You can park or view at either end. It also can give wonderful photographic experiences. On the Marin side of the bridge , you can watch sailboats, and other ships cruising along under the bridge. It cost approximately $35 million to build and around 4 years to construct it. There are incredible views from Marin to the Bay Bridge, as well as Alcatraz Island if the fog has lifted. I prefer afternoons as most mornings , fog is there. It is the second longest bridge in America. At the south end is Fort Point, a historic fort, built from brick in 1853 thru 1861 at the beginning of the Civil War. Its’ mission was to protect San Francisco from any naval attacks. It was manned during the Civil War
