Description
Airport Loop Trail in the Red Rock Country of Sedona is a great hike and wonderful trail to experience the beauty of red rock sandstone, weathered by time and the elements .
In Sedona’s magnificent red rock country, these stunning formations of breathtaking red rock monolith will touch your heart, and calm your inner self. One of the wonderful things about this beauty of nature, is it's ability to charm you with its shadows, reflections, and variety of colors. When the light hits the red cliffs ,, it glows and the red and orange sandstones are nature in the raw. In the dry and arid conditions of northern Arizona, the light is always changing. Sedona is second only to the Grand Canyon in visitors. Whether you start the trail at the airport vortex and climb towards the Village of Oak Creek, or finish the trail at the vortex, the views are awesome.. The Red Rocks are a mixture of red and orange sandstones called the Schnebly Hill Formation. This formation is found primarily in the Sedona area. The Sandstones was deposited here about 250 to 300 million years ago. My favorite time of the day to take this trail is between 5 to 7 in the summer and earlier on shorter days. Whether you are looking for a easy or strenuous hike, some mountain biking, awesome photography, or a serene, calming place to reach your inner self, the Airport Loop Trail rocks, and is a great place to start or finish.
