Description
As I was returning from Southern Arizona awhile back, with the wind kicking up, the light started to hit that magic hour, and Chicken Point and the Chapel just lit up. This area is very enchanting with great views, and wide open spaces. This area is very popular with locals as well as tourists alike as it is located at the Chapel of the Holy Cross, a must visit place when you come to Sedona's famous red rock country. Chicken Point is located about halfway between the Uptown area of Sedona, and our sister town; the Village of Oak Creek. From I -17 north take exit 298 and go about 12 miles and look for the chapel roundabout. Note , this is about 3 to 4 miles past Bell Rock, one of our famous vortex areas. If you forgot you hiking or photo gear, then no worries as we have 3 wonderful hiking stores in Sedona, The Hike House, Canyon Outfitters, and in Uptown , Sedona Outdoors. In Uptown Sedona, all your photo needs can be met at Rollies Camera, one of the oldest businesses in Sedona Also, Sedona is in the high desert area, so bring lots.of water especially in the summer. I have seen many a tourist dizzy from lack of hydration. Bell Rock is one of those mystical places. Try hiking to the top of the vortex, and some say they can definitely feel the energy field. For thousands of years Bell Rock has been considered a sacred area, especially to the Hopi and Yavapai Tribes. It is considered one of the major vortex spots on Earth. It is sometimes crowded on a full moon evening, as the feeling out there can be surreal! Just remember to bring a flashlight, and if taking photos a good sturdy tripod. Bell Rocks butte comes from sedimentary rock of the Permian Supai Formation, which occurred between 299 to 252 million years ago. The Permian period as well as the Paleozoic period ended with the largest mass extinction in the history of earth. Theories exist as to what caused this, but the end result was the loss of nearly 90% of all marine species of life. When you visit Sedona, prepare to be enchanted!
