Last week, I was hiking with my Tour Guide, and dear friend Nancy in the high country of Mount Rose. The trail was fairly level, with wonderful views, snow on the ground, and small but beautiful semi frozen falls at the end of 2.4 miles. area.

The hike to Galena Creek Falls is an easy 2.5 miles one way, with very minimal elevation gain. Just follow the marked route to Mt Rose summit. Even though the elevation of the hike is high, almost entirely above 9000 ft., it is not a factor because the hike is very gentle. However, my son thought it was more like a "moderate" hike, so perhaps you should take what I say with a grain of salt. Ha ha. Along the way you will see some nice views of Lake Tahoe, and the mountain (Mt Rose) looms over you to the right. In the late spring/early summer, there are apparently plenty of wildflowers, especially near the falls.

It is difficult to see the entire 60 ft. high waterfall from the base, as the very top section is a bit out of view due...

I ventured out West in the early 70's. After several trips to Northern Arizona with it's Majestic Skies, Red Rocks, and wide open spaces, I realized I wanted to settle here. Well, Fate came into the picture and numerous stops came along. I ventured to San Juan Islands, British Columbia, Oregon, Utah, Northern and Southern California, and even Southern Arizona. Yet , I felt unsettled looking for home to sink roots. Finally Sedona tugged hard , and I settled here in the mid 90's and rediscovered my sense of Gratitude and Enjoyment. Well I,m mostly retired now, traveling more, and have relocated in an old mining town in the Sierras; Time for change; new areas to explore. In Nature, I find that feeling of Peacefulness and Stillness. I hope...
