Description
Page Springs Hatchery is located just south of Sedona in Northern Arizona on Oak Creek. It is operated by the Arizona Game and Fish Department. It is also about 5 miles north of Cornville in Yavapai County. It serves as well as a bedroom communitity for nearby Sedona and Cottonwood. It is located along Oak Creek which is a tributary of the Verde River. Lower Oak Creek has been designated an important Bird Area by the National Audubon Society. It is an easy drive from Sedona’s red rock country as well Cottonwood. Look for the sign on 89A when traveling south of Sedona, and turn left on Page Springs Road and enjoy your experience. Page Springs Hatchery is a wonderful atmosphere that children as well as adults will enjoy. These raise mostly rainbow trout here with some small amount of brown trout as well. I have never seen an admission charge although the parking lot is small; and the feeling is very peaceful at the Hatchery. I come often, as it is wonderful photography year round. Sometimes it is also mesmerizing at feeding time. It is a very peaceful place where children can see life growing in and around the Hatchery. The Hatchery is 82 acres in size and produces over 700,000 fish each year. There is also a nice nature trail in and around the Hatchery with nice spots down near Oak Creek. Next to the hatchery are trails that take you down to the creek where there are birds and wildlife to be found. Page Springs also has many vineyards featuring numerous Arizona wines. The road is well traveled and easy to drive on. The area is especially nice in the fall, with farms, vineyards, and leaves everywhere. It is a neat place to get lost for a while, relax, and take it easy. I would recommend this area to anyone looking for a wonderful experience away from the crowds of Sedona.
